Recruitment for scholarships

The Prof. Richard Pipes Laboratory at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences announces a recruitment for scholarships for researchers from foreign research centresfor a short-term stay (minimum 14 days) at the Institute of Political Studies of PAS.

The scholarship holder will have the opportunity to utilize the Prof. Richard Pipes Library during their stay at IPS PAS. This book collection consists of about 3.5 thousand volumes, concerning mainly Russia, the Soviet Union, and the Russian Empire. The acquired books were published in the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly in English and Russian. According to the last will of Professor Richard Pipes, since 2019 the Library is located at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.

Scholarship amount: 5 thousand PLN for a stay lasting from 14 days to 1 month. For each subsequent month of the granted scholarship another 5,000 PLN is allotted.

Duration of stay: from 1 September 2020 to 31 December 2020.

The scholarship will be awarded to researchers in the field of Russian and Sovietology studies, concerning post-Soviet states and the former Eastern Bloc.

  1. In the scientific works that will be created as a result of their stay, scholarship holders will be obliged to include a include a declaration that their works were created with the financial support of the Prof. Richard Pipes Scholarship, awarded by the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. During their stay, scholarship holders will be required to participate in seminars and/or other scientific events organized by the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
  2. Knowledge of one of the following languages is required: English, Russian or Polish.

  • CV;
  • list of publications;
  • research project (maximum 3 typed pages, i.e. 5 thousand characterswith spaces); please indicate the scholarship period being applied for (minimum 14 days, maximum 8 months); the project must be written in English, Russian or Polish.
